"Good Times Bad Times" Famous Drum Beat Notation
"Good Times Bad Times" Free Video Drum Lesson
Start Point: 0:13
Drummer: John Bonham
Artist: Led Zeppelin
It consists of two bars containing four counted beats each.
Bonham plays this amazing drum groove during the verses of the song. His right hand maintains a steady flow of eighth notes on the cowbell but if you do not have one set up on your kit then the bell of the ride cymbal can be used instead (as demonstrated in the video lesson).
Look out for the left handed double snare drum notes on beats 2 and 4 of bar 1. The second of each pair of snare drum notes falls in between the right hand.
The majority of the bass drum notes are played on the offbeats, in between the right hand, creating a really cool syncopated rhythm.
The icing on the drumming cake occurs on the 'e' of beat 3 in bar 1 where three sixteenth bass drum notes are played in a row. The first and third of these bass drum notes fall in between the right hand.
