Not all drum beats have to be over the top lick-fests in order to be fun or cool. Sometimes all that's needed in a song is something a bit more refined. The drum beat from this song really clearly demonstrates this concept.

Ian shows amazing restraint in order to play this drum beat over and over without feeling the need to improvise or add anything to it. It's a lovely simple groove that works in the song precisely because he doesn't mess around with it.

Saying that though, it still requires a little control and skill in order to get the dynamics right so don't go thinking it's just for beginners...even though it's perfect for drummers just starting out
