Paradiddle-diddle Ideas

Couldn't do a blog entry without adding something for you to have a go at!

This is the Paradiddle-diddle in case you've been living on Mars...

Have you noticed what happens when you play it between ride cymbal and snare like this?...

Well, firstly its a really cool linear style drum beat but secondly the right hand is playing the classic "Jazz Ride Cymbal" pattern. It's just started in a different position.

If you start the Paradiddle-diddle half way through (on the R L L) then you get this...

Voilà, the "Spang-a-lang" Jazz pattern.

You can use the Paradiddle-diddle to help practice the jazz ride pattern as the left hand is filling in all the gaps the right hand is leaving out.
