Are there any easy songs to play on the drums?
Hello,
I'm new here and I saw your I Don't Care Youtube vid so I decided to give the site a try. I've only been playing for a couple of months now and I want to learn how to play songs. Are there any easy songs that a beginner can play? If so can you please tell me which songs?
I'm a beginner, and I'd recommend these: [because I learned some of these first]
The Offspring - Kristy, Are You Doing Okay?
Audioslave - Like A Stone
Coheed and Cambria - The Suffering
Panda - Muñeca
The Offspring - Vultures
The White Stripes - 7 Nation Army
KoRn - Falling Away From Me [although I still can't play 100%, sounds pretty good to me]
All were learned by myself by ear, no tabs or anything because of the low difficulty.
Very nice songs for beginners is:
It's my life by Bon Jovi
One of these songs I teach to nearly every child.
A really nice one is:
Easy Lover by Phil Collins but it's kinda tricky
But one of the best songs where you can see that a drumset CAN match to melody and music
Phil Collins is a god in this
Hey Ricky,
Welcome to the community!
There are a load of songs out there that a drummer could find easy to play along to. The problem is that one drummers "easy" is another drummers "hard".
When I first started playing drums I was really into the charts and pop music. Most chart/pop music is written with simple and easy to copy drum parts because the producer doesn't want the drummer to take the attention away from the singer/whole group. There are of course acceptions but this is generally what you will find.
I would recommend some of the stuff I used to play along too when I first starting to learn...
Most of Queens music, Almost all of AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Beatles. There are so many more of course but these are considered to be "simple music" for drummers.
And then there are specific songs (sorry if they seem a little dated, it was in the 80's/90's)...
Addicted To Love (Robert Palmer), Love Shack (B52's), Radio Ga Ga (Queen), Sit Down (James), Stupid Girl (Garbage), Universal (Blur), The Whole Of The Moon (Waterboys), Sweet Child O Mine (Guns N Roses), Weather With You (Crowded House), Africa (Toto)...
And the list goes on.
Remember, you don't have to copy the drummers parts note for note if you can't quite work it out. Just have fun playing in time with your own grooves/fills as this is just as important in my opinion.
Guys, can anyone else think of any simple songs for drummers? I'm sure I've missed out some really obvious ones and many modern classics too!
Hope this helps and thanks for your question.
'Nothing Else Matters' from Metallica... It's not that hard I believe.
Lenny Kravitz : 'I'll be waiting' Nice and easy...
Gwenn Stefani: 'It's my life'
Linking Park: 'Crawling'
Pink: 'Please don't leave me' Basic drum, base drum a little bit more challenging...
Gossip : 'Love long distance'

The first song I learnt was "Yellow" by Coldplay. Not very rock and roll but a very easy song to learn. Even I can play it and I'm a girl (hee hee)!
