Yamaha DTXplorer Problem

Hi all,

Probably a really dumb question but here we go...

I got my Yamaha DTXplorer a week ago.  I set it up fine and it was all working perfectly until today when I noticed even a small hit makes causes the crash to make noise.   So I went around hitting different bits of the kit (even the support frame) and my kit is making noises (incorrect noises) when I play it.  I mean, if I'm practising a rhythm and hitting the hi-hat or the tom1, the crash sounds.  It wasn't this sensitive when I first set it up and I haven't touched anything.  The cables are all ok and the screws are pretty tight.  It isn't amazingly grounded to the floor, but then it never was.  Help!  is this normal?  What can I do?  It's gutting cos I feel like it's busted after just a week!  Maybe it's just me but I want the correct bits of the kit to sound when I play it.  I understand vibrations may cause the crash to sound, but seriously?  Hitting the frame a little bit?  I don't get it.  Please tell me I'm just an idiot and it will all turn out ok.

Sorry, I'm ranting.  Hope you guys can understand this post.

it might be because its getting old as we've had it for a couple of years.

Hi Rob, Thanks for your

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your reply.  It's sorted now.  It's a thing called "cross-talk" according to the manual!  Basically the sensitivity of some of the pads was too high but with a bit of playing around with the module, it's all good now.

Thanks anyway.

Caroline.

Hey Caroline, Hmmm...that's

Hey Caroline,

Hmmm...that's a weird one. Some of my pupils have nasty cheap electric kits that do this all the time but never a Yamaha Kit.

Forgive me if I sound like I'm patronising you but are you 100% sure all the wires are in the correct pads? For example, do you have the ride and the crash jacks mixed up? Is the Hi-Hat cymbal and Hi-Hat controller in the right jacks?

Have you tried moving your crash cymbal further away from the rest of the drums?

It might just be the floor though. Is it a wooden floor? Can you place some carpet under the kit? Is it totally flat?

Is the kit second hand? If it's brand new then I might consider getting it replaced. Pain, I know!

Sorry Caroline, that's all I can think of right now. Hope one of these might is the solution as I know how annoying this can be!

Good luck and let us know how you got on.

Rob
