In this free video drum lesson, I want to show you how to play the drum solo that occurs 2:25 into the song “Bullet With Butterfly Wings” by Smashing Pumpkins, featuring the drumming of Jimmy Chamberlin.
The solo consists of 8 bars split into four lots of a two bar pattern. Each first bar of the two bar pattern uses a different fill, whilst the second bar plays this really cool 32nd and 16th note snare drum roll…a lot harder to play than it might sound at first! The solo features lots of other cool licks that can be taken out of the solo and used in your own playing…so have fun experimenting!
