In this free video drum lesson, I want to teach you the song “Gold On The Ceiling” by The Black Keys, featuring the drumming of Patrick Carney.
This song is great for any beginner wanting to learn that mysterious side of drumming…swinging…or playing the shuffle. It’s based in triplets, but you do not need to understand that. What is important is that you learn to hear, and then play, the two different feels. The more common feel in popular music being “straight”, whilst this song features the “swung” style.
You may find it difficult at first to get that feel down, but don’t worry, everybody does when they fist start. Stick with it though and you will get there. Have fun…it’s a great tune!
