In this free drum lesson, I have the drum notation for a cool solo and beat from “The Grudge” by Tool, featuring the drumming of Danny Carey.

Danny and the band play some stabs at around the 3:42 mark with Danny adding some tasty drum fills to the end of each section. It’s counted in 5/4 and involves some classic double bass drum licks. As with all licks that involve Toms though, please use your own discretion when it comes which to play. If you only have a couple of Toms then you will also have to decide how you are going to split these licks up over your own setup.

The drum beat at 4:14 only gets played a couple of times but is packed with cool orchestration ideas including the bell of the Ride Cymbal on the “+” of beat 2. This drum beat is also counted in 5/4.
