In this free drum lesson, I want to teach you the main drum beats from the song “Do You Want To Rock” by Danko Jones with Rich Know on drums.

The song features a really cool cowbell groove with a strong bass and snare drum foundation. The only variations that occur throughout the song are the inclusion of extra or less ghost notes.

The first transcription on the notation below shows you how Rich Knox starts the groove…with very few ghost notes. Then the second time he moves into this groove he adds an extra ghost note on the “e” of beat 3 for both bars. The final variation he plays before moving back to the first again includes just one extra ghost note in the first bar on the “a” of beat 2.
