Merry Christmas everyone! In this Free Video Drum Lesson, as requested by my subscribers on Facebook Page, I’m going to take a look at Sultans Of Swing by Dire Straits, featuring the drummer David “Pick” Withers and his wonderful sounding groove!
The part I want to show you how to drum occurs around 4:24 into the song, the part where the vocal line sings “As the Time Bell rings…” David Withers plays a broken para-diddle between the ride cymbal and snare drum to replicate this “Time Bell” in a really fun and musical way.
Few drummers listen to the vocals, let alone interact with them. David really was a musicians drummer.
