I’ve been playing around with my double bass drum technique recently and I thought it would be cool to write a new free drum lesson covering the more advanced techniques involved in playing double bass drum.

This new free double bass drum lesson covers the more common subdivision of sixteenth notes and looks at syncopated ideas around this division of the beat.

Playing double bass drum grooves that start and end in between the beats of the bar is a really cool way of using the double bass drum and can create some great head turning licks. Although a little trickier to play, this free double bass drum lesson will hopefully try to resolve any difficulties you may have.

Free Drum Lesson: Learn How To Play Double Bass Drum – Syncopated Sixteenth Note Beats

Each double bass drum example found in this new free drum lesson is written as a two bar example. The first bar shows the double bass drum pattern played with eighth notes on the right hand (played on the hi-hat or ride cymbal for example) whilst the second bar shows exactly the same bass drum pattern but with quarter notes on the right hand (left hand for left handed players of course).

These two right hand ostinatos are the most common right handed patterns used by drummers and so should give you the tools required to perform the double bass drum patterns for most musical situations.

Some of these patterns are not for the faint hearted though and may cause drum sticks to be thrown through windows! 😉 Remember to stay calm and take your time with the more difficult double bass drum patterns. Have fun with them and be patient.

The following free double bass drum examples show an example of some of the bass drum beats available in the free drum lesson. Each is discussed individually in greater detail within the double bass drum lesson itself.
