First Date” – Drum Fill (0:00 Album Version)

First Date Drum Fill Notation (Travis Barker & Blink 182)

Travis starts the song with quarter notes on the snare drum with the bass drum being played in between, on the upbeats of beats 1, 2 and 3. The right hand plays the crash on beat 1 and the open hi-hat for the remaining three downbeats of the bar.

Starting from the ‘+’ of beat 4, Travis plays a series of sixteenth and eighth notes between the snare drum and high tom. The two high tom notes are played with the left hand, while the right hand plays the high tom on beat 3.

Beat 4 ends the drum fill with the right hand on the snare drum, the left hand then moves to the high tom and then both hands play on the floor tom for the last two sixteenth notes of the bar.

Now you just have to work at playing this at a squillion miles per hour and you’re there. Have fun and good luck!
