In this free drum lesson, I want to teach you the main tom drum beat from the song “Lhabia” by Deftones featuring Abe Cunningham on drums.
The tom tom beat that occurs at the beginning of the song, and then later as well, is a great example of how Abe is able to improvise whilst still hitting all the key parts of the song AND keeping it grooving.
The drum beat consists of a two bar pattern with similar ideas in each as I explain. In this lesson I give you the first six bars of the song, or the first three variations of the drum beat. If you wanted to play just one for the majority of the song then this would be fine as well.
