In this free drum lesson, I have the drum notation for some of my favourite beats and fills from the song “Going Under” by Evanescence, featuring the drumming of Rocky Grey.
The first beat occurs once the acoustic drums come in over the top of the electronic sample. If features a cool kick pattern following the guitar riff and a four bar open hi-hat pattern/cycle.
The chorus drum beat that first occurs at 0:58 is a really sparse bass drum pattern falling nicely into the cracks of the song. Make sure you get that bass drum to fall on the “a” of beat 2.
The third section is a cool drum fill that occurs near the end at 2:53. Rocky plays this classic three note lick between the flammed hands and the feet ending it nicely with a snare and crash accent on the “+” of beat 4.
The last fill that occurs at 3:15 is my favourite though. The tempo of the song lends itself really nicely to playing thirty second notes. So Rocky holds back throughout the entire song and then lets rip with this cool lick around the snare and toms.
