In this free video drum lesson, I want to show you how to play the chorus drum beat from the song “Son Of A Preacher Man” by Dusty Springfield.
The way Gene Chrisman plays this drum groove is superb and totally unique. His feel and touch are very hard to replicate exactly, but we’re going to have a go anyway.
The bell of the ride cymbal plays a big part in this groove. Feel free to use either the side or bead of the stick, but don’t play the cymbal too hard otherwise it will start to wash. Have fun!
