In this free drum lesson, I want to teach you the main drum beat intro from the song “Higher Love” by Steve Winwood featuring John Robinson Jr. on drums.

The intro to this song has always confounded and confused me. It’s such a cool drum pattern but remained bathed in mystery until I did my research. It turns out that John is playing a Cuban influenced pattern, but it was in the studio, with some clever edits, that the magic occurred!
